Aston Martin has high hopes for success under the new car regulations in Formula 1. Entering the new season, the new AMR26 designed by team boss Newey first hit the track on Thursday during the Barcelona pre-season test.
According to Patrese, the Silverstone-based team will soon be able to compete for the biggest prizes.
He told a gambling site: "They have everything in place. Newey, the factory, everything. Can they do well? I think if they are not ready immediately, I think they are coming for sure, and they will challenge very soon."

Patrese also argues that two-time world champion Fernando Alonso can go head-to-head with younger rivals like Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
He continued: "They have the right ingredients. Even Alonso, even if he is a little bit older, as a driver with the right car and engine, then he can fight with the top drivers like Max or Leclerc, as I said.
"So, they have all the right ingredients. If they are not ready immediately, I think they are coming."
Aston Martin's official season launch will take place ahead of the Bahrain pre-season test, on Monday, 9 February.
