Flavio Briatore has made eyebrow-raising moves many times before. The Italian has made another, though this time it's outside of Formula 1. The former team boss is starting his own political party in a strange career switch.
Briatore is originally a businessman but was successful as a Formula 1 team boss at Renault. He, Renault and Fernando Alonso ended Michael Schumacher's dominance by winning back-to-back F1 world championships in 2005 and 2006.
His career came to a sudden stop after being suspended by the FIA as a result of 'crash gate' in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Nelson Piquet drove into the wall as commissioned by the team to give Alonso a greater chance of winning the race. He hasn't returned to Formula 1 since, though has been present at a few races.
Now Briatore is entering a new adventure. He's starting his own political party because he believes Italian politics is at a crucial point and that he can act on the matter. His party is called Il Movimento del Fare which translates freely into 'The party for the doers'.
