FIA puts an end to political statements on podium with new rules

After the Mugello Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton made a political statement about Breonna Taylor, who was killed by police violence in America. The fact that Hamilton wore the shirt during the #EndRacism gesture has no further consequences, but the fact that Hamilton wore the shirt during the podium ceremony was reason for the FIA to set new rules.

And so the FIA has put in place a set of rules for the Russian Grand Prix to ensure that there is no repeat of Mugello. The top three are now obliged to wear their racing suits in full after getting out of the car. During the ceremony and the interview immediately after the race, "the driver may only wear their racing suit, which is fastened to the neck and not on their waist."

This new rule only applies during the stage ceremony. If the driver goes to the media for the interviews in the square, it is mandatory that the drivers must wear clothing that belongs to the team. This means that the FIA prohibits drivers from wearing other clothing, as Hamilton did in Mugello.
