For now, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is not too worried about the lack of speed of his AMR-23. While the Spaniard finished on the podium every week, speed was disappointing in Austria and Britain.
Alonso finished seventh at Silverstone and did not have the pace to fight his way to the front. It doesn't worry him much for now: "Not really, to be honest I'm not too stressed about the development. The car is better than expected this year, we are fighting for things that we could probably never dream at the beginning of the year. So now if we can keep in the top ten and fight with the top guys, it's great, but I think we have to focus as well on the long-term picture."
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton did have the speed to drive to the podium. It did not take the Briton much effort to overtake the Aston Martin driver. "They've been quicker the whole weekend so when he was behind I knew that it was not worth spending too much time defending and he had more pace," the two-time world champion Alonso told GPblog and others.

McLaren a danger?

The veteran was pleased to see Lando Norris on the podium as well, although he does not see McLaren as a major threat for now: "They are very fast but they are a lot of points behind so we should have enough pace to keep the distance with them." Alonso thinks the most tight battle will be fought with Mercedes and Ferrari.
