F1 takes next step towards carbon-neutral paddock: No more plastic

Formula 1 has already stated several times that it wants to become climate-neutral by 2030 and step by step that goal seems to be more and more achievable. For 2021, F1 has an intermediate target to plan further developments for 2030. Next season, Formula 1 will abandon single-use plastic bottles.

All employees who are on the track for Formula 1 can only use reusable bottles. Not only plastic bottles are history in the F1 paddock, also other forms of plastic will no longer be used by Formula 1 Autosport explained.

This includes the paddock passes that team members and drivers receive to enter each Grand Prix. This year, these passes are made from over 100,000 recycled plastic bottles. This step is one of many that Formula 1 is taking to ensure they can continue as a climate-neutral sport.

Sebastian Vettel is one of the drivers who thinks climate is hugely important, and he has repeatedly stated that he likes the direction F1 is taking.

"The fans don't see through the TV that it's such a big event with lots of people and lots of waste. People want to drink something and this is often given in plastic bottles or cups and this has to stop. We really need to find an alternative. A plastic-free paddock is what we need," said the German.
