No F1 at Silverstone in 2020: ''Is impossible with this scheme''

The British Grand Prix is in jeopardy. Where the race on the Silverstone circuit was on the provisional calendar twice, the government's quarantine scheme seems to be throwing a spanner in the works.
In England the rule is now in force that travellers from abroad must be quarantined for a fortnight. That rule makes it almost impossible for the Formula 1 circus to move that way after the Austrian Grand Prix, because then racing will be at a standstill again for at least two weeks, while it now wants to overtake as many races as possible.

No F1 in England

Formula 1 sees this for itself and therefore calls for an adapted scheme. ''The fourteen day quarantine period makes it impossible to organize a British Grand Prix in 2020. It has a huge impact to the whole of Formula 1 and if we want to bring the sport back to television, there must be exceptions'', said a spokesman for F1 to ESPN, among others.
According to The Sun, this exception is not appropriate for Formula 1 and the government has rejected the proposal that has been put to Boris Johnson by F1 itself. Whether this position has already been definitively taken is as yet unknown, but if it remains so there will indeed be no British Grand Prix in 2020.
