Formula 1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali addressed the possibility of having to cancel more Grands Prix due to the ongoing Middle East conflict, while Liberty Media's CEO said that one of the April races could possibly still be rescheduled in 2026. No Formula 1 Grands Prix took place in April this season due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran and the United States, which prompted the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix. Liberty Media CEO Derek Chang said, quoted by The Race: "It might be possible to reschedule one race toward the end of the season."
There have been two options generally discussed and previously rumoured. One is to slot a race between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, creating a new tripleheader in the season. The other is to reorganize the final weeks of the season, where racing is already taking place in the Middle East.
Domenicali: 'F1 has plans in place'
The Formula 1 season ends with two Grands Prix in the Middle East. The grid will first visit Qatar before the season finale in Abu Dhabi. If the war continues, further changes would have to be made.
Domenicali said about the possible replacements for the final two races of the season, should those be needed: "The only thing I can say is that we have plans, hopefully not to be applied, because we really hope that the situation for the world, not only for the racing, will go back to a normal situation.
"Of course, the lead time, or the cut off really, is different between what we can eventually recover that has not been run in April versus what could eventually happen or not happen in the end of November, beginning of December. We are, of course, aligning with the teams and with the promoters, because that's something that has a big chain of reaction."
He concluded: "In the due time, we will keep everyone informed. But I hope you understand if we just say something that will be a speculation that we want to avoid, because, as I said, the first hope is to make sure that we go back to the place that we should be."
