Red Bull Motorsports released an extended video of Max Verstappen taking on Fuji Speedway in a SuperGT Pro car. The Dutchman once again showcased his skills on the wet Japanese circuit. In the video, Verstappen swapped the Mercedes GT3 car he will use at the Nordschleife at this year's 24h Nurburgring for a Nissan SuperGT Pro car instead. "It is a proper race car," Verstappen said.
SuperGT Pro expert Atsushi Miyake was brought in to set the benchmark for the four-time
Formula 1 world champion.
"If I'm not beating him, I am going to cut a corner," he said jokingly before the Japanese driver sat in the car.
First, it was Miyake's turn to push on the rainy Fuji circuit. He set a 1:44.0 on his second attempt. On his first flying lap, the Red Bull Racing
F1 driver was just a tenth off Miyake’s time. Verstappen then improved to a 1:42.2 on his second lap.
After getting out of the car, Verstappen explained: "Yes, it was just getting tricky to push. After my first lap, I was like I could do a bit better, then it started raining [more], and some of the corners were more tricky."
The Dutchman enjoyed the experience, and would like to return to driving the car. When asked about whether he would go for the track record next year, he added with a smile: "Could set new challenges." Watch the entire video at the top of this article!
