George Russell underlined his and Mercedes' dominance in 2026 with a commanding Sprint Qualifying pole position at the Chinese Grand Prix ahead of teammate Kimi Antonelli and Lando Norris.
The Brit controlled the opening weekend of the season in Australia, and after topping the timing charts in FP1, Russell took that pace in sprint qualifying and was not troubled throughout the session.
Antonelli was clearly second best, far too quick for any other team, but finished two-tenths off the pace of his teammate come the end of qualifying.

2025 World Champion Norris put in a fine lap to take P3 away from Lewis Hamilton in P4, showing improvements from last season in his Ferrari.
Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc finished P5 and P6, respectively, while Pierre Gasly was the best of the rest with a fantastic P7 finish, getting ahead of Max Verstappen in a lacklustre Red Bull.
Oliver Bearman in the Haas and Isack Hadjar in the other Red Bull rounded out the top ten.
