Kimi Antonelli has won the Italian Grand Prix after passing his teammate George Russell, despite starting in 19th position in what was the best drive of his career so far.
There was drama at the start of the race as Charles Leclerc crashed out at the end of Lap 2 at the Parabolica. Leclerc had already had a close moment with Lewis Hamilton, forcing his teammate off track at Turn 2 on the opening lap, in a move that the seven-time world champion was not happy with.
After a red flag period, Antonelli - who started 19th - found himself in the lead by Lap 18, overtaking his teammate George Russell after a flying drive. Due to the nature of the Monza circuit, the two exchanged the lead several times with Max Verstappen close behind also in contention.
Antonelli and Verstappen both pitted for fresh tyres under a VSC period and they had to work their way back through the field. Antonelli was back into second by Lap 38, just as Russell was placed under investigation for a yellow flag infringement.
Russell escaped punishment but was not able to hold off his teammate who took the lead on Lap 50. It was an easy overtake for Antonelli, although he went into the gravel just two laps earlier after Russell had also gone off track.

Verstappen finished third ahead of Lando Norris who passed his teammate Oscar Piastri on the final lap. Norris was not happy with his teammate lap earlier, after he felt he had been pushed to the grass by his teammate.
Lewis Hamilton was sixth on a difficult day for the Ferrari ahead of polesitter Pierre Gasly, Arvid Lindblad, Franco Colapinto and Yuki Tsunoda. Gasly drove a solid race but was unable to carry over his qualifying pace over a race distance.
