Although expectations were not exactly high, qualifying for Max Verstappen turned out to be a great success. According to Robert Doornbos, the Dutchman can therefore fight for the victory tomorrow with Valtteri Bottas.
In the Ziggo Sport studio after qualifying, Robert Doornbos analyses Max Verstappen's last lap. When the Red Bull Racing driver starts his lap, Valtteri Bottas has just finished his run.
“He immediately connects well with the Finn, in the hope that Bottas might be so "stupid" as to give Max a free slipstream. He only let Max pass when braking in turn two. He can also see that on his dashboard, he sits in front of it and takes a small tenth in every sector. That's really cool," says the former Formula 1 driver.

An amazing starting place

Although Bottas ends up in third place due to the fast lap of Verstappen, according to Doornbos that is certainly not a bad position to start the race with. “P3 is awesome to start. Max is fighting for victory with Bottas. They both start on the medium tyres. Hamilton has to pull a rabbit out of a hat to win that race tomorrow," the analyst concludes.
