Formula One's calendar expansion might have to wait.
A Grand Prix held in Copenhagen has been discussed behind the scenes for some time now but a fresh blow has been dealt to those hopeful of an arrangement with a deputy mayor of the city saying a race in Denmark's capital would be "completely unrealistic".
F1 CEO Chase Carey visited Denmark earlier in 2018 to discuss a potential race being held in the country for the first time since 1962. Although he was optimistic after this meeting concluded, hopes of a return to the country for F1 have been dented.
Speaking to the Politiken newspaper, deputy mayor for Copenhagen's technical and environment department, Ninna Hedeager Olsen said that holding such an event in the capital was "completely unrealistic".
"The organisation of an event like Formula 1 is so extensive and requires so many resources that it is completely unrealistic for Copenhagen by 2020," she said.
"My administration estimates that Formula 1 could affect central parts of the city for up to nine weeks," she said.
"This is of course completely unacceptable."
