De Vries reacts to lack of Formula 1 seat: 'I would be lying'

Nyck de Vries has been hoping to get into Formula 1 for a number of years now. The driver is doing a great job at Mercedes and seems to be ready for the next step, but this season it may not be so for him. In conversation with Speedweek.com he reacted to the current situation.

The Dutchman managed to win the Formula E this year. He showed that he is an excellent driver who can compete with the greatest drivers in the world. When some teams in Formula 1 had a vacancy for next season, De Vries's name was mentioned frequently. Alfa Romeo, among others, seemed to be interested in him.

However, it turned out to be just a hope, as all teams chose another driver. This means that De Vries will have to face another year without being able to compete in Formula 1. However, it does not mean that he is giving up already, he emphasizes in the interview. De Vries wants to keep working hard in the coming years to make his dream come true.

"That is the dream of every young driver," responded De Vries. "I would be lying if I said I wasn't aiming for Formula 1 anymore or that I gave up on my dream. But I'm not actively working towards it anymore. Next year is a new season, let's see what happens. I will do my job as best I can."
