There have been rumours for a long time that Nyck de Vries would join Formula 1. Both Alfa Romeo and Williams expressed their interest in the Dutchman. In the end nothing came of a contract.
In conversation with Speedweek.com De Vries talks about the rumours and the disappointment. "First of all, I was delighted and really excited that my name was even mentioned among the candidates. It confirms that people see the potential in me."
Next year, the Dutchman will drive again in Formula E with the Mercedes team, where he will defend his title as reigning world champion. Last season in F1, De Vries was the team's reserve driver and test driver. The reserve drivers for the 2022 season have yet to be confirmed.

De Vries satisfied

"I can't influence what happens on the outside. I'm happy with what I can do at the moment", says De Vries. He let it be known that his programme will look roughly the same as in 2021. He will also continue to drive in WEC.
