Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo were teammates at Red Bull Racing for almost three years between 2016 and 2018. The two drivers get along well, but the two sometimes clashed. For example, incidents occurred in Hungary (2017) and Baku (2018), but according to Ricciardo, this has not affected their relationship off the track.
"In spite of everything, we have stayed together," said Ricciardo to the Beyond the Grid podcast. When the two aforementioned incidents are discussed, Ricciardo laughs: "Thanks again Max!" But we both quickly gave it a place. We have always respected each other, I think that is because of that.
"Sometimes things happen in the heat of battle. Things like this were about to happen because we know how competitive we are. We both really wanted to win, and we knew that from each other.
"Max had nothing to do with that and tried to keep himself apart, unless I am seriously mistaken. We both had the same goal in mind and we both went for it at all times."
The two drivers are competitive on the track but still have a good relationship off it. Having switched teams, Ricciardo and Verstappen can now enjoy their relationship without the competitive element.
