Counterpart Drive to Survive aims to attract wider audience to MotoGP

Formula 1's two-wheeled counterpart, MotoGP, is getting its own documentary series. For the first season of the series, which is scheduled for 2022, camera crews from Amazon Prime filmed behind the scenes at the premier class of motor sports. Dorna Sports, the commercial owner of the sport, confirmed this on the official website.

The series follows a similar format to Netflix's successful Drive to Survive, which filmed in the Formula One paddock for the fourth consecutive year in 2021. It takes a look inside the garages of various teams and drivers, with special focus on the emotional farewell of MotoGP veteran Valentino Rossi.

The season will consist of eight 50-minute episodes, with a different rider taking centre stage in each one. This includes eight-time world champion Marc Marquez, who made his comeback in 2021 after a period of absence due to a serious injury. Of course, brand new world champion Fabio Quartararo will also be featured.

With the series Dorna hopes to appeal to a wider audience, as Drive to Survive did for Formula 1. "We believe it will appeal not only to fans of motorsport, but to all viewers interested in a good story. In this case, that story is one of triumph and sacrifice, both in sports and personal," reads the statement from Laura Fernández Espeso, CEO of producer The Mediopro Studio.
