Tom Coronel praised Max Verstappen’s start at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The Red Bull driver immediately overtook Lando Norris but nearly slid off the track. While Coronel wasn’t initially sure what had happened, he quickly concluded that such bold moves are typical of the four-time world champion.
Speaking on Today Inside on Sunday, Coronel discussed the Zandvoort Grand Prix with host Helene Hendriks, who noted that she expected Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to lead the race together. Coronel commented, “When Max is in the mix, there’s always trouble, especially if he’s behind you. He had the softer tyre and immediately positioned himself to overtake. He aimed to pass both on the outside at Tarzan corner, but then realised it wouldn’t work because Piastri was still defending.”

Dutch fans got a bit of a scare as Verstappen appeared to lose control of his car while overtaking Lando Norris. According to Coronel, this is where the skill of the driver with the number one car really shows. “Normally, someone would have just taken out both cars number one and number two but he just pulls it off,” he said.

At first, the Dutch analyst, who was at the circuit, didn’t fully realise what had happened. “We were sitting right there and watching the images, but live it happens behind you. There’s some delay, and the whole crowd went crazy, so I thought, ‘What just happened?’ Then you see it and think: ‘I should have expected this from him.’”
