While the United States Grand Prix isn't on the F1 calendar for another few months, the circuit has announced it will shut down amidst the coronavirus pandemic, laying off a significant number of employees in the process.
The purpose-built track will have to close its doors indefinitely, with Travis County, where the circuit is located, banning all gatherings involving more than 250 people until the end of April.
MotoGP had a Grand Prix at COTA on April 5th, which had already been moved to November. The United States Grand Prix will not be until October 25th, and should still be going ahead.
COTA confirmed they had to lay off some of their staff as the circuit closes down in a statement they released.
“We are heartbroken for our employees (and their families) who spend all year preparing to welcome guests from Austin and all around the globe but now find themselves without work,” the communique read.

“Most of all, we hope that everyone stays healthy, heeds the caution advised by leaders and experts and comes back to COTA when good times return.”
