Charles Leclerc seemed en route to fight for pole for the Canadian Grand Prix. Nevertheless a strategic call by Ferrari put him in a tough spot he could not recover from.
Speaking to F1 TV, Leclerc spoke of his qualifying session and was fairly certain there was more in the car.
"The pace was there, I think the car was good enough for pole," said the Monegasque.
"But I f*** it up completely. I am very annoyed. I just got out of the car so obviously emotions are running high. I am very annoyed."

Leclerc argues that going out early might not have been the best approach due to traffic. "I don't know if it was the right thing to go out early, because we ended up having Isack (Hadjar, ed.) in the middle of Turn 6-7, I mean, he was 100 meters infront but with these cars and on a track like this, you lose all the grip."
"It's a shame because until then I think it was good enough for pole. I am very frustrated."
"I think today the car was really good, we haven't maximized anything."
As a result, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton also managed to outqualifiy the Monegasque driver. The Briton will start from P5 on the grid.
