Did F1 teams exceed budget cap in '22? 'Factually wrong'

A season ago, Red Bull Racing was fined millions and reduced wind tunnel time because the team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had exceeded the budget cap. It should soon become clear whether the Austrians and the other nine teams have done according to the rules in terms of spending in 2022.
Motorsport.com had heard that the teams that stayed within the budget cap in 2022 would be notified by the end of July. Which teams these are was unclear. Moreover, the website had heard rumours that three teams had exceeded the cap. Sky Sports therefore went to find the truth at the FIA.

The tv channel quoted sources at the international motorsport federation on its own website. These responded to Sky Sports' questions with: 'Factually wrong'. Also, the English channel had heard that it would be two (not three) teams. "Sources at the FIA have dismissed that as the auditing process is still ongoing and no decisions have been made," Sky wrote.

Domenicali wants sporting sanctions

Whereas teams that exceeded the budget cap in 2021 were still mainly subject to financial penalties, Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali would prefer that to change in the future. "I would like there to be a sporting penalty for exceeding the budget cap, which is something we [FIA] have been pushing for. In Formula 1, we currently have three types of regulations: the sporting regulations, the technical regulations and the financial regulations. All violations we have to end up punishing with sporting measures, we cannot avoid that," Domenicali said earlier to Motorsport.
