Brundle adamant: 'The time when Red Bull was so dominant is over'

Max Verstappen struggled to make his way through the top five at the Belgian Grand Prix. Throughout the race, the Dutchman was stuck in a DRS train behind Sergio Perez and Lando Norris, but eventually managed to finish fourth. Former Formula One driver Martin Brundle believes the Red Bull era is coming to an end.

In his column for Sky Sports, Brundle looks back at the Belgium GP. There, he saw not only a Red Bull that was too slow to win, but also a Verstappen that was cautious on the first lap. "Verstappen was by definition super cautious in the first corner and quickly picked up his easier victims. Alex Albon, Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, who were all in a race for best of the rest rather than any squabble with the world championship leader."" Brundle revealed.

"But when Verstappen arrived on the back of Norris and the leading bunch in a train seeking shelter in the open rear wing DRS zone of the driver in front, he stalled out for progress," Brundle added.

In 2022, Verstappen took victory from P14 at Spa. He could not repeat that trick this time, now that it looks very much like the competition has become equally, if not too fast. With that, Brundle is already drawing a harsh conclusion: "The time when Red Bull was so dominant that they could win at almost any spot on the grid is over."
