Brendon Hartley will take the well-trodden path to Formula E. He will join a number of ex-Formula 1 drivers in the all-electric series as well as driving for Toyota in the World Endurance Championship.
The New Zealander was dropped by Toro Rosso after just one season in Formula 1. Hartley scored just four points during his full season as an F1 driver and finished below Lance Stroll's troubled Williams. But since then, the 29-year-old has been lined up to replace Fernando Alonso.
Hartley is looking forward to the challenges that Formula E will give him and admits he's excited about racing on the streets circuits.
“Formula E is totally different from any other race series I've been in, but I am hoping my experience in many categories with energy management will pay dividends and give me a head start as a rookie,” Hartley said in a statement on Thursday.
“I’ve always been a fan of street tracks and Formula E has some of the wildest I’ve seen."
