For this season, three sprint races are planned during the Formula 1 season. Although it remains to be seen if this will be a success in Formula 1, Ross Brawn is hoping for six sprint races in the season for 2022.
Since the arrival of Liberty Media, Formula 1 has tried out different things to spice up the sport. They tested the qualification format and the start time of the race. Those two things were not that successful, but the new sprint races should be a success. Even better, Brawn itself has the intention to have more sprint races next season.

More sprint races

''Purely in my own head, without having consulted the teams or our commercial group, I think it would be good to do half a dozen sprint races in a season. I don't think a complete season with sprint races is what we want, but let's see how it goes this season first,'' the F1 chief said to The Race.
Brawn hopes the fans are 'open' to Formula 1's new ideas, but also says they won't push plans. ''If it's not a success, we won't push it. If the public don't respond to this, then we don't see any reason to do so. However, we will try to make sure that people can see that this has added value, and then we will see how it goes'', Brawn concluded.
