Valtteri Bottas left Mercedes at the end of last year to take on a new challenge at Alfa Romeo. However, it does not mean that he is giving up his dream of becoming world champion, he tells Motorsport.com.
The Finnish driver entered Mercedes at the beginning of 2017 with a lot of self-confidence. The German racing team had to say goodbye to Nico Rosberg a few months earlier who had just won the world championship. Bottas, therefore, had a great challenge to live up to expectations.
In the seasons that followed, he was unable to compete with Lewis Hamilton. Although he did manage to finish in the top three of the rankings, there was often a lot of difference between him and Hamilton. At the end of last year, he, therefore, decided to leave Mercedes and found a new challenge at Alfa Romeo.

Many see this as a step backwards, but Bottas certainly not. The driver is still confident that he can become world champion one day. Although he is realistic enough to know that for Alfa Romeo it is first and foremost important to score points on a regular basis, he hopes one day to stand with the world title in his hands.
