One of the most entertaining moments of the Monaco Grand Prix was when George Russell intentionally cut the chicane and took a penalty after riding behind Alexander Albon. He did this because Albon was slowing down to create a pit gap for his teammate, Carlos Sainz. Albon treats Russell
Russell posted on his Instagram after the race, "Monaco is such a special place, but we knew our weekend was over following the failure in qualifying. Dinner on you tonight, Albono!!!”
Albon jokingly replied, “I’ll take you to a drive-thru😂", regarding the drive-through penalty Russell received during the race.
While some thought the two would have a rough go at each other after the race, the two went to dinner instead. Later in the evning, Albon posted a picture of him grabbing the bill with the caption, "You’re welcome @georgerussell63"
The FIA and Formula 1 implemented a mandatory two-stop rule to spice up the race. Due to the size of the F1 cars, overtaking is virtually impossible around the streets of Monaco. The attempt, however, did not work, as some teams slowed down the grid behind them to help their teammate pit.
