Aston Martin made a bid to surprise in 2022

The Formula 1 teams are busy getting the teams for next year together. Where several teams are opting for the same drivers as this year, Aston Martin tried to come up with a surprise.

According to Auto, Motor und Sport, the formation made an attempt to add Fernando Alonso to the team. The Spaniard has been racing in Formula 1 again since this year and is performing excellently at Alpine. The plan was to further strengthen the Aston Martin team with Alonso, but the Spaniard politely declined the offer.

Therefore, it seems that Aston Martin will continue with Sebastian Vettel next season. "We have a one-plus-one contract," team boss Otmar Szafnauer told the medium. "In it, there are certain dates by which we have to make a decision. But the deadline has not been reached yet. There is a timeframe in which we want to meet. That's not far off. We love Sebastian and he loves us. Now we have to talk about how we will move forward next year."

Alonso has scored 38 points for Alpine so far this season, leaving him four points short of Esteban Ocon. Vettel is in twelfth place with 35 points gained.
