Andretti: 'Verstappen has shown why he is the world champion'

Mario Andretti is an icon in motorsports. The American himself became a world champion in Formula 1 and was also the best in IndyCars. Andretti is now a fan of Max Verstappen.

Andretti had also watched the Grand Prix in Imola, as he follows every race closely. Afterwards, Andretti was extremely complimentary about Verstappen's performance in Italy. "Max Verstappen has shown clearly why he is the World Champion. Purely fast and no mistakes," the American tweeted.

Last year GPblog had an exclusive interview with Andretti. Back then, the motorsport legend was impressed by the victory Verstappen took in Austin at the American Grand Prix.

He continued, "even though there were no changes at the front, it was nail-biting. You could see how much pressure Lewis was giving him. He (Max) parried that perfectly. Everyone realizes that we are witnessing the best the sport has to offer. There is no doubt about that."
