The Brazilian talent who graduated from Formula 2 following his championship win in 2021 has since been knocking on the
Formula 1 door.
While he waited for it to open, he made his debut in endurance racing, making his European Le Mans series debut, racing in the iconic Daytone 24 hours and the 24 hours of Le Mans.
The Brazilian had been adamant on remaining solely focused on his role as Aston Martin reserve driver, hoping that, being in close proximity to the
F1 grid, a chance would eventually come his way.
This posture led him to miss out on several offers coming from the electric racing series, including Andretti itself.
However, after missing out on chances at Sauber and Cadillac, respectively, Drugovich has decided to park his F1 dream and take on Formula E's highly competitive challenge.
Reacting to the news the Brazilian said: “They're all so fast and the team is very strong in most of the races. Now that I have got to know most of the team already, it's something that has really confirmed in my mind how capable the team is. Hopefully, sooner than later, we will be fighting for wins and championships.”
“It's so cool to race in front of my home crowd,” he added, “as it’s something that I've been looking to do forever and especially in a series of this size and being a world championship. I've seen clips from last year’s race and the grandstands were packed, so hopefully this year there'll be even more!”
The Formula E Championship Rounds in Berlin, Shanghai and Tokyo are set to clash with F1 2026 Grands Prix in Miami, Silverstone and the Hungaroring, though. How this will impact his committment to Aston Martin it is not yet known, but Drugovich is not too worried about it.
“I don’t know yet to be fair. The main focus was to get this done with Andretti. I will need to see what is going to be beneficial or not for me.”
