Alpine confirm they will stop making F1 engines but staff remain

Alpine are definitively stopping their own F1 engine project. It is not yet known which external engine supplier Alpine will take. The staff - who in recent weeks strongly opposed this plan at the time - will be given a position in the newly established Hypertech Alpine in Viry-Châtillon.

The opening of the new centre in Viry-Châtillon is a bright spot in what has been a very tricky couple of months for Alpine and its engineers. Famin's announcement that Renault would not be designing an engine for 2026 and beyond came as a shock.

However, the staff will be pleased by the opening of the 'Hypertech Alpine' centre, with operations starting by late 2024. This new building will be the site of a lot of work, focusing on a future Alpine supercar, research into new electric motor technologies, and "the implementation of an F1 monitoring unit to master technical developments in this industry."

The transformation of the site does mean that relocation of resources and competencies currently assigned to the F1 engine will occur, but each collaborator involved with the project will be offered a position within 'Hypertech Alpine'.

Mercedes is the expected new partner for the Alpine F1 team. It had previously emerged that the team was in talks with the Germans to become their engine supplier.
