In recent weeks, several drivers from multiple racing classes have been involved in violent crashes in Eau Rouge at
Spa-Francorchamps. The circuit is going to make changes to the walls around the corner, but according to
Fernando Alonso that is not going to help.
Eau Rouge looks increasingly dangerous
A few weeks ago Jack Aitken crashed so hard into the corner that he sustained injuries. On Friday, W Series drivers escaped a serious accident and
Lando Norris also hit the wall very hard in Saturday's qualifying session.
Spa-Francorchamps has already indicated that changes are on the way, but according to Alonso it will make little difference.
"Even with a different barrier, probably you save some of the accidents, but it is still a high speed corner," the Spaniard is quoted as saying by
Autosport.com.
"It is the nature of the circuit and that is why it is special." Disappointing qualifying by Alonso
Alonso had a disappointing qualifying and did not make it out of Q2. The penalty incurred by
McLaren driver Lando Norris allowed Alonso to move up one place to thirteenth, but the Spaniard has already indicated that the car is not driving great in the rain.
