Fernando Alonso has not scored a single point yet in the six Grand Prix that have been run so far, all due to the Aston Martin car being 'slower' than its midfield competitors. Whilst Williams showed heeps of pace in Miami, Racing Bulls, Haas and Alpinea and Sauber all finished ahead of the highest placed Aston Martin car, Alonso's. What is the issue at the British racing green coloured team?
Formula 1 World Championship 2025, Round 6, Miami Grand Prix, Miami International Autodrome, Miami, USA, Friday 2 May 2025 - Fernando Alonso (ESP) Aston Martin F1 Team AMR25.
'Aston Martin didn't take the step that Williams, Alpine and Racing Bulls did'
According to Alonso, first of all, it's not one issue, but several. "We are not as competitive as we want to be, we thought to be, but yeah. I think there is not only one theme, there are a couple of factors that made the car a little bit difficult at the moment in terms of pace and maybe not as fast as some of the midfield."
What's the difference between the other midfield teams and Aston Martin? The Spaniard knows all too well. "They raised the level and they are closer to the top four and we didn't make that step."
As always, Alonso digs deep revealing his don't-give-up-hope fighting spirit.
"Still a long championship, so we need to react, we need to do things better and hopefully in the next few races we have a step forward. It has been more difficult than expected."
