Alonso on return so far: "That's more or less what I thought"

Fernando Alonso's comeback is not quite what was expected. In general, Esteban Ocon is the faster driver of the two. Alonso himself thinks that he is getting faster every race.

In Baku, Alonso had a very impressive restart towards the end of the race. The Alpine driver made up a lot of places, eventually crossing the line in sixth place. "In one way or another I have the impression that I am doing better and better," Alonso told Motorsport-Total.com.

Despite Alonso's one-point lead over Ocon in the standings, Ocon does seem to be doing a lot better. "I said it in Baku: I don't see it as me having such big problems. I was in Q3 three times out of six and was in the points three or four times. That's more or less what I figured.

"I don't know what people expect from my comeback. I myself am happy with how it is going," said Alonso. Sixth place in Baku has given the Spaniard a boost and he says himself that he was hoping for even better results. In France Alonso thinks he can also compete at the top of the midfield.
