Alonso good friends with Verstappen: 'That's what I like most about Max'

True friendships are rare in Formula 1. After all, the best drivers in the world are not on the grid to make friends. Yet some F1 drivers do have close relationships with each other: Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen do.

In a documentary by Spanish network DAZN, Alonso is asked about his friendships on the track. "Few," replies the Aston Martin driver. "Max Verstappen and Checo Perez are two drivers you can trust on the track. You saw that for example in Brazil with Checo: he fought hard, but with respect."

"Verstappen was maybe a bit crazier in his early days and had some incidents and some problems, but now he is a very decent driver on the track," he continues. "Off the track, I see a lot of similarities between him and me. We have the same interests, we love racing. We like the sport more than the show."

"We go to the track in the team's clothes, race on Saturday and on Sunday we go home. And when we have some free time, we go racing. We like simple things and racing. That is what I like most about Max and despite his world titles, he has not changed in that," said the two-time world champion.
