Fernando Alonso has outlined his plans post Formula One, as he spoke about the possibility of returning to the Indy 500 and Le Mans, as well as any new events including the Dakar Rally.
The two-time world champion aims to stay in motorsport following the end of his F1 career. Alonso, who made his F1 debut 25 years ago, cast doubt on his future insisting that last weekend was likely his last race in Barcelona. Although the Spaniard might not necessarily leave F1 at the end of this season, the Barcelona track won't be on the calendar again until the 2028 season.
During an on-stage interview in front of his fans in Barcelona, he spoke about potential moves elsewhere, including if there was any possibility that he could return to the Indy 500 or Le Mans.

Alonso has distanced himself from a return to the Indy 500, but is excited about the potential of returning to Le Mans, especially if he is partnered by four-time world champion Max Verstappen. He also revealed he would like to take part in the Dakar Rally, an event that he has not previously taken part in.
"Indy? No, it's not really on my mind right now. And Hypercar, I don't know. It's not something I have firmly in mind either. I'd like to do the Dakar, and I'd like to win the Dakar one day. The challenge itself is what appeals to me.
"The triple crown is also very attractive, but so is the Dakar, because if you manage to win in Formula 1, endurance racing and rallying, that would also be something with very few precedents. So I like the challenge. But Hypercar too, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans was a really beautiful experience for me. Maybe one day I'll do it again, especially if it's with Verstappen."
Alonso made three attempts at the Indy 500, impressing in 2017 when he looked like a potential contender for victory, leading 27 laps before retiring with an engine failure. He failed to qualify in 2019 and finished one lap down in 2020. The Spaniard is a two-time winner of the 24 Hour of Le Mans, winning in both 2018 and 2019.

Aston Martin abandons AMR26

Any decision to leave F1 could be made on the back of his struggles at Aston Martin this season. Aston Martin have been well off the pace over the opening seven weeks, with Alonso scoring their only point at the Monaco Grand Prix, following a penalty for the Cadillac of Sergio Perez.
Aston Martin are set to introduce a new car and GPblog understands that a B-spec, could see the light of day at Zandvoort. Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll will be hoping that Adrian Newey can work his magic and push the team back up the pecking order.
