Fernando Alonso finally showed some of the old Fernando at the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. With some great actions he climbed from tenth to sixth place in two laps, taking full advantage of the restart.
For Fernando Alonso, it is not yet the dream return to Formula 1. The Spaniard saw Alpine as a new project, which he hopes will bear fruit in 2022. Alonso himself, however, struggled at the start of the season, receiving criticism from many quarters. After the good performance in Baku, Alonso is now speaking out.

Alonso hits back after criticism

''I wasn't too unhappy about some of the races being called 'very bad'. I don't think they were that bad. In Barcelona we were clearly on one stop and we didn't perform there. But we were more or less on the same pace as Esteban in Monaco and I think I finished two seconds behind him there,'' Alonso said according to Motorsport.com.
Still, the criticism remained, and that could irritate Fernando. It kept repeating every weekend. The opinion was that I would have a hard time, even compared to other drivers like Daniel Ricciardo who changed teams this year. But that's not fair. I think there is a very big difference between their struggles and mine. I never worried, I knew it was just a matter of time'', Alonso concludes.
