A lot of pundits and former F1 drivers talk about how good the old Hockenheim track used to be and how much better it was, but Fernando Alonso isn’t one that agrees. The track used to be one of the longest on the calendar but was dramatically reduced for the 2002 Grand Prix.
The long straights and the forest part was removed. Some key historical F1 areas, but Alonso doesn’t miss them. In fact, he claims the track has improved.
“It was different, I don’t know that it was better or worse. It’s difficult to judge, the races were a long time ago,” Alonso said in an interview on race fans.
“I think race tracks they keep always changing. We have the new generation of tracks like Bahrain or Abu Dhabi and some others. We have some street circuits like Baku and some modifications to the traditional circuits as well, like Parabolica in Monza now is the asphalt run-off area.“I liked the old Hockenheim and I like the new Hockenheim.
“I like both and if for the spectators it’s better this one, I’m happy for the compromise and the best result.”
