JJ Lehto has warned Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Giovinazzi that he could face being dropped by the team if his results do not improve as he continues to struggle on his return to F1.
Giovinazzi has struggled to make an impact in Formula 1 following his return to the pinnacle of motorsport after a brief spell back in 2017. Despite finishing every race, the Italian is yet to score a point with his best finish is P12 in China. His teammate Kimi Raikkonen meanwhile, has had a good start to life at Alfa Romeo as he’s scored 13 points from the opening five races.
Speaking to Iltalehti newspaper, Lehto said: “Kimi is the only one who can bring the results at the moment.
“Giovinazzi looks lost and helpless compared to him. In all the other mid-level teams, they have two drivers who are on the pace.
“There will certainly be changes at some point. There’s probably a lot of politics in the background, but the fact is that Alfa Romeo needs two drivers capable of bringing in points."
