Alexander Albon was sidelined by
Red Bull Racing at the end of 2020. The Thai driver had to make way for
Sergio Perez and will now work as a reserve driver. He can laugh about it now.
Alexander Albon will not race in
Formula 1 in 2021. At least, that is the planning prior to the season. Perez is
Max Verstappen's new teammate, while Albon will compete in the DTM alongside some test work for
Red Bull Racing.
Albon laughs away the pain
While the Thai driver said earlier that he had a hard time with this decision, the biggest pain is now over. Prior to Sunday night's Virtual Grand Prix Albon makes several jokes during
his stream. When it appears that
Lando Norris and
Charles Leclerc are not present, he jokes that 'everyone is busy, but he is obviously a lot calmer now'.
It doesn't stop there though. Later in the stream, Albon has to laugh again, however, when he receives a question about whether he will get his seat back with Red Bull if he wins this race. ''Yes, that's in my contract,'' he says, laughing. Albon didn't win the race, however. He finished fourth behind Enzo Fittipaldi, Stoffel Vandoorne and Arthur Leclerc.
