Newey reveals main focus at Aston Martin: 'No doubt Lawrence wants that'

As Adrian Newey prepares for his first season at Aston Martin after over a decade at Red Bull, the designer is preparing to tackle an unknown challenge with his new team. As he has been unable to work for the team during his departure period from Red Bull, Newey is keen to discover what his new boss will expect from him.

Adrian Newey has revealed that his focus once he joins Aston Martin will largely be on the 2026 car and that he will have limited involvement in the team's 2025 development. Speaking in an interview with Auto, Motor und Sport, Newey stated, “My concentration will clearly be on ’26."

Although he intends to focus on the 2026 season's new regulations, Newey predicts that he will still be expected to have some hand in helping their performance next season. "No doubt Lawrence will want me to be a little bit involved in the ’25 car. Whether I can really contribute anything or not, I’ve got no idea until I start.”

The designer's expertise will definitely be needed at Aston Martin after a disappointing 2024 season. While the team managed to retain fifth in the Constructors' standings, the team struggled with the fierce competiton as they did not reach a single podium in 2024 compared to the eight that they managed to achieve in 2023.
