The Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday was won by Andrea Kimi Antonelli after two and a half hours of pure chaos. For Max Verstappen, the race was over after just five seconds, as he failed to get off his grid slot. Online, Verstappen’s retirement and other on-track incidents sparked plenty of debate. The young Italian started from Pole Position and held the lead under extremely difficult conditions, despite multiple restarts and pressure from behind. It was his fifth consecutive victory, further strengthening his position as leader in the world championship.
Drama ensued even before the first corner. Verstappen, who lined up alongside Antonelli on the front row, suffered a technical issue that caused his Red Bull to bog down at the start. He immediately lost a lot of time and ultimately had to retire, marking yet another major disappointment in his season.
Midway through the race, incidents and a deteriorating track surface brought out a Safety Car and later a 30-minute long red flag. The event was temporarily halted and then restarted, further ramping up the tension. During these restarts, Antonelli remained strikingly calm and error-free, fending off pressure from
Lewis Hamilton and others behind him.
This is how the internet reacted to the chaotic Monaco Grand Prix
Hamilton finished second in his
Ferrari, despite a time penalty for a pit lane infringement. He drove a strong race but couldn’t match Antonelli’s pace. Isack Hadjar initially took third place, although there was still discussion and possible penalty investigations ongoing after the finish.
George Russell endured a tough race with multiple issues and finished well outside the top ten.
The race was further marked by multiple retirements, including
Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris, both of whom dropped out due to technical problems or crashes. As a result, only a limited number of cars reached the finish.
