Alexander Albon will return to Formula 1 next season. The driver will join Williams in 2022, where he hopes to do better than during his last adventure at Red Bull Racing.
The Thai was the successor to Pierre Gasly at the Austrians in 2019, but he failed to tap the high level of Max Verstappen. It caused Red Bull to part ways with him again after a year and a half, so he looks back on a learning period.
"There are definitely things I could have done differently going into this year from last year, just in terms of feedback and understanding where the performance is in the car," Albon explained in an interview with The Race. "That’s really important and something which takes time and laps to understand."

Looking ahead to 2022

Albon has done a lot of simulation work for Red Bull this year, so he expects to have an edge over his fellow drivers next season at Williams. "Each car has its own characteristics on heavy fuel, light fuel, going into qualifying, there are lots of things that change which I feel like with the right steps I could have extracted a better performance."
