Daniel Ricciardo took victory at the Italian Grand Prix. The Australian did so in a season that, especially in the early stages, was not easy for the driver. In that period he always had hope for better times, he told Formel1.de.

The switch of Ricciardo to McLaren was harder than expected. The former teammate of Max Verstappen had to get used to his new car and team, so the results were disappointing in the early stages. Moreover, he had to deal with criticism from the media, which made it extra difficult for him.

Ricciardo experiences a difficult time

Ricciardo admits to the medium that his broad smile was a little less on his face at the time. "Deep inside there were moments full of frustration and moments when I let my head hang. But I swore to myself that this would not last. I wanted to take something positive out of it and learn from it," he says.

"I think that makes you appreciate the good days more. It made the bad days worthwhile. There were a lot of low points this year, but deep down I didn't lose faith. I think just taking a little rest and the break in August helped."
