George Russell will be part of the Mercedes team next season, where he will succeed Valtteri Bottas. The British driver knows what he owes his promotion to.

The Williams driver certainly didn't have the easiest path to follow. Russell drove with Williams for a long period at the back and had to keep motivating himself to improve. This season, his perseverance has had a positive effect on his performance, as Russell's good form has seen him fight for the points with Williams.

"The battle at the back has made me mentally fit," Russell explained in La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Dealing with wins is easier, you celebrate it. The difficult moments and mistakes are the real challenge. They have tempered me. I have become more mature as a person and as a rider. At the signing, I realized that those who believed in me really gave me a chance. They reassured me. I knew I had to work and have confidence in the races to get there."

Russell does an excellent job

Thanks in part to his second place at the Belgian Grand Prix, Russell is fifteenth in the world championship with fifteen points. His teammate Nicholas Latifi scored eight points less.
