Nyck de Vries won the championship in Formula E last weekend, earning him a lot of respect in Formula 1. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed his enthusiasm for the Dutchman and stated that De Vries is ready to move up to Formula 1.

The brand-new champion remains relaxed under Wolff's statements, according to an interview with the NOS. "I heard what he said about me and feel honoured that someone of such stature links me to Formula 1. On the other hand, I also know that it's not in your control whether you get a place there next season. Whether this world title has brought Formula 1 a step closer? In any case, it opens doors."

For now, De Vries is waiting to see what opportunities will present themselves in the coming months. "I've chosen a different path my whole career, so it's not impossible that I realise my dream. But in the end, racing in Formula 1 is not enough in itself. I always look for my challenges everywhere. Also there, if the opportunity arises."
