Alonso warns Verstappen: 'A lot can change in Formula 1 as well'

According to Fernando Alonso, Max Verstappen is now the favourite for the world title. The Spaniard announced this at the press conference prior to the Austrian Grand Prix, but the two-time world champion gives a warning.

Verstappen leads the world championship and seems on track to capture his first-ever Formula One title. Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, Verstappen is also the favourite, as after a dominant win last week, Formula One returns to the Red Bull Ring this weekend.

''Max is the candidate now. He is performing better and he is in the best position in the championship. It is not like the last years when Lewis Hamilton drove against Lewis Hamilton. And sometimes against Valtteri Bottas, but not often. Then there is much more adrenaline in that title fight now,'' Alonso said according to the AD.

Yet Alonso also knows how quickly things can change. In 2010 he was leading the world championship for a long time but lost everything in the last race. He wants to warn Verstappen and his fans. ''But beware, in Formula 1 a lot can change again quickly'', the 2005 and 2006 world champion concludes.
