Alfa Romeo occasionally performs well in qualifying, but then finish just outside the points during the race. Next weekend in France, team principal Frederic Vasseur hopes this will be different.

In France, Vasseur is hopeful that his team can start picking up solitary points. "We travel to France with the determination to continue our points run for the third race in a row. We are finally starting to see results from all our good work and we know that the team has a lot more potential, but we also know that it is crucial to put down a trouble-free weekend to achieve these goals."

"The disrupted qualifying and eventful race in Baku somewhat masked the real pace of our car," continued the Frenchman. "Hopefully France will be the place where we really show what we can do."

Raikkonen sees small gaps in midfield

If Alfa Romeo are serious about competing with AlphaTauri, Aston Martin and Alpine, then performance will need to be stepped up a notch. A lot more points will have to be scored. This has to be done by Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn also sees that the differences in the midfield are small. Smaller at least than the current difference between the three biggest competitors and Alfa Romeo itself suggests.

"In France, it won't be much different: the midfield will be very close and it will come down to giving it our all from Friday to Sunday. The differences are very small and so is the difference between finishing in the top ten and just outside it." The gap with the number seven in the constructors' championship (Alpine) is currently 23 points. The tripleheader in France and Austria seems to be the ideal moment to close that gap.
