Former Red Bull Racing driver Pierre Gasly had a good weekend in Monaco. He qualified in sixth place and during the race he managed to keep Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes behind him. This is the best result so far for the Scuderia AlphaTauri team.

Gasly therefore feels right at home with the team. In 2019 he still had to leave Red Bull due to disappointing results, but in 2020 he won with AlphaTauri at Monza. In an interview for Motorsport.com the Frenchman talks about the result in Monaco: "It was important for the team to find our real level again and have a trouble-free weekend, which is difficult in Monaco because it's a tricky circuit. But we managed it and it gave us our best result of the year so far."

Gasly on Baku

He continued: "I spent some time in the simulator [of Red Bull Racing] in the UK and then I went to Baku via Dubai. It's a lot of travelling, but it's all for a good cause, because we're going into a very busy part of the season." Like a number of other drivers, Gasly is not having much luck in Baku. He has never scored points at the circuit before. "It does have something in common with Monaco: it's a street circuit in the centre of a city, so it's not a normal circuit. That means you have to tune the car a bit differently. You do have much less downforce than in Monaco and the corners are much slower in Baku, but it is similar in terms of grip. Because of that lack of grip and the low downforce, it's not an easy challenge and it's difficult to find the best setup for the car."

"A few years ago [in 2016] I finished second in GP2 there. In Formula 1, I was competitive but always had some bad luck. I want to change that this week. I hope we can perform at a similar or even better level to Monaco." At the moment Gasly is in ninth place in the championship.
