Early signs suggest Mercedes are in a title fight with Red Bull this season but Toto Wolff says his team are confident enough not to bring any additional upgrades to their car in 2021. He revealed in an interview in Monaco that the main focus is on the rule and regulation changes coming next season.

Speaking to Ted Kravitz of Sky Sports, Wolff implied that Mercedes' focus is not on improving this year's car in order to stay ahead of Red Bull and secure the title. Instead, the Austrian foresees only "minor adjustments" to the 2021 concept.

All bets on 2022

"We are trying to fall within the budget cap," the team boss explained. "We are positively churning along and trying to bring tweaks to the car and trying to understand the car."

Wolff continued, emphasising the focus on next season when the three-year freeze on engine development will start: "We are flat out on 2022. There will be tiny tweaks that will be coming, but it's more understanding the concept where we are looking for laptime gain."
