Marko relishes Red Bull Racing: "Clearly the fastest car on one lap"

Max Verstappen has secured his first win of 2021, having already come very close in Bahrain. For Helmut Marko, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was proof that Red Bull Racing have done an excellent job.

In recent years it has always been Mercedes who have come out on top, and who have dominated the rest of the season. In 2021, however, it will be Red Bull Racing that seems to have the fastest car, at least over one lap. They took pole in Bahrain, but narrowly missed out on pole in Imola.

''Our speed is good. We clearly have the fastest car over one lap, but our tyre wear was greater, especially on the intermediates. Fortunately, the track changed so much that we were able to switch to the dry weather tyres at just the right moment. After that we drove to victory with ease'', says Helmut Marko at Sport1.de.

The Austrian is also pleased with Red Bull's strategy. ''It was exactly right. One lap later would have given Mercedes an undercut, so it was the best thing to do. Hamilton was actually out of the race for us after that, but then that red flag came and he got lucky'', concludes Red Bull's top man.
