Brawn feeling "optimistic" about introducing F1 sprint races in 2021

Sprint races are coming to Formula 1 in the 2021 Formula 1 season. It's unconfirmed but expected they'll be introduced during the British Grand Prix and two others. Formula One's Managing Director is open to the change but wants to preserve the Grand Prix. 

“The critical thing is to preserve the Grand Prix. We want the winner of the Grand Prix to come away from those weekends still being the strongest and most successful competitor of that weekend. But we want to fill out the weekend and we want to give the fans something more substantial to look at and follow on a Friday, something interesting on a Saturday," Ross Brawn told Sky Sports. 

Formula 1 to embrace change

F1 haven't altered the weekend schedule for many years. The majority of the paddock are willing to try the change, as is Brawn. But he acknowledges some people have doubt and expect the change to have a negative affect. 

“We want this opportunity to try it at three races this year. If it doesn’t work, we’ll put our hands up and go away and think about it again. But I’m quite optimistic about it and if you take the view of the whole weekend then it’s got a lot going for it," he added.
